The Masai Mara National Reserve lies in south-western Kenya and forms part of the wider MaraCSerengeti ecosystem. Its landscape is dominated by rolling grasslands, riverine woodland and open savannah, creating excellent conditions for wildlife viewing throughout the year.
The reserve is especially famous for its concentration of predators, including lions, leopards and cheetahs. Large herds of plains game are also common, while the Mara and Talek river systems support hippos, crocodiles and diverse birdlife.
From roughly July through October, conditions may coincide with the seasonal Great Migration, when large numbers of wildebeest and zebra move through the greater ecosystem. The exact timing and river crossings vary with rainfall and natural wildlife movement.
The Mara supports a rich variety of predators and plains wildlife. Sightings always depend on natural wildlife movement, season and conditions, but these are among the species commonly associated with the reserve.
The reserve is located in south-western Kenya near the Tanzanian border and connects ecologically with the Serengeti ecosystem.
The greater Masai Mara offers accommodation ranging from comfortable mid-range camps to luxury tented camps and established safari lodges. Final selection can be matched to your itinerary, budget and preferred location.
