Nairobi National Park offers one of the most unusual wildlife experiences in Africa: an established national park immediately beside a major capital city. The park's open plains, scattered acacia woodland, seasonal streams and rocky areas provide habitat for a broad range of wildlife and make it an excellent introduction to Kenya's safari experience.

This half-day excursion is designed for travellers with limited time in Nairobi, business visitors, families and guests arriving before a longer safari. The programme can normally be arranged as an early-morning or afternoon game drive depending on your schedule and park operating conditions.

Your safari is conducted in a private safari vehicle with an experienced driver-guide. Wildlife sightings always depend on natural animal movement, but the park is known for species such as rhino, buffalo, giraffe, zebra, antelope, warthog and predators.

01 · Pick-Up

Nairobi Hotel Pick-Up & Safari Briefing

Your excursion begins with collection from your Nairobi hotel, residence or another agreed meeting point. Your driver-guide welcomes you, confirms the programme for the day and provides a brief introduction to Nairobi National Park, expected driving time, park procedures and the wildlife experience ahead.

For a morning safari, an early departure is recommended so that you can reach the park while temperatures are still cool and wildlife activity can be higher. Afternoon departures can also be arranged according to your Nairobi schedule.

02 · Entry

Enter Nairobi National Park

On arrival at the park gate, entry formalities are completed before beginning the game drive. Almost immediately, the urban environment gives way to open grassland, bush, acacia trees and views across the park's broad plains.

Your driver-guide selects the route according to current conditions, recent wildlife movement and the time available. Because wildlife is free-ranging, the game drive is flexible rather than following a fixed circuit.

03 · Game Drive

Wildlife Viewing Across the Open Plains

Continue through different sections of the park in search of wildlife. Depending on natural movement and conditions, there may be opportunities to see giraffe, zebra, buffalo, antelope, warthog, ostrich and other plains animals. Nairobi National Park is also an important rhino conservation area, making rhino sightings one of the special possibilities of the excursion.

Your driver-guide interprets animal behaviour, habitat and the wider conservation importance of the park. Stops can be made at suitable viewpoints for photography whenever conditions allow.

04 · Predators

Search for Predators & Continue Game Viewing

The safari continues through areas where predators may be encountered. Lions, hyenas and other carnivores occur within the park, although sightings cannot be guaranteed. Your guide uses local knowledge, wildlife signs and current park conditions to maximise the quality of the game drive.

This part of the excursion also gives you time to appreciate the contrast between Nairobi's skyline in the distance and the natural wilderness immediately in front of you—one of the defining characteristics of Nairobi National Park.

05 · Return

Exit the Park & Return to Nairobi

After the final game-viewing section, drive towards the park exit and begin the return journey to Nairobi. You are dropped at your hotel, residence or another agreed location, bringing the half-day safari to an end.
